The garment-dyed

Il Tinto in Capo

The coloring of garments using the "tinto in capo" system is a distinctive feature of the Mason’s brand. This revolutionary technique allows us to present our iconic models in a varied palette of colors and shades. This characteristic enables us to meet the tastes of our customers. Moreover, working with garment dyeing keeps our products always trendy and strongly linked to Italian craftsmanship and know-how.

Garment Dyeing Meaning

The "tinto in capo" technique consists of dyeing an already made garment in vats filled with the desired pigment. In this process, the white or raw fabric is dyed in the final stage of the manufacturing cycle, unlike traditional processes where the fabrics are already dyed. It is easy to understand the meticulous craftsmanship behind this work, which makes each creation unique and exclusive in its imperfection.

Origins

Garment dyeing is a versatile and particularly ancient technique, as it has been known in Japan as shibori since the 8th century. The name shibori comes from the word “shiboru” which means to squeeze, twist; indeed, the fabrics are folded onto themselves and tied with string, clips, or threads before being dipped in dye. This way, some parts of the fabric do not get dyed, creating original and particular decorations. In general, dyeing fabrics this way is a technique not accessible to everyone, as it requires great effort, attention to detail, and significant economic investment. All these elements ensure that this process is employed worldwide only by a few brands.

Characteristics

Using this technique produces a depth and chromatic intensity impossible to achieve with pre-dyed fabrics. The colors are rich in shades and nuances, making each garment different from the other, almost unique models with a lived-in and handcrafted appearance. After the dye treatment, the garments acquire a patina that could be defined as vintage: the color is not shiny and has a very soft feel.

Mason's and Garment Dyeing

Mason's also uses this type of dyeing in the Spring-Summer 2024 collection. Two of our must-have pieces are a clear example of the potential of this technique: the men’s chino pants in stretch gabardine, extra slim fit, Milano style and the men’s cargo pants in stretch cotton twill, Chile model, extra slim fit.

The Milano Style features a slim line and welt back pockets and is designed for a consumer who appreciates a slim and elegant fit. Thanks to garment dyeing, this men’s chino is offered in twelve different colors to satisfy all consumer tastes. The Milano Style extra slim fit is the chino that cannot be missing in men's wardrobes in Spring-Summer 2024.

The Chile is available in a palette of nine colors. This pant, in its construction, recalls heritage garments of military origin but is completely updated in terms of fit and details. The Chile model is a cargo pant for men and is perfect for a summer and fashionable outfit.

For the women’s wardrobe, Mason's recommends the capri chino pants in tencel, Jaqueline Curvy model, curvy fit. This garment is a must-have Mason’s chino, both for the softness of the fabric and the curvy fit, perfect for every body type. The capri chino pants in tencel are available in ten colors and can be paired with a blazer and a viscose shirt for a sophisticated outfit suitable for any important occasion.

Wearing a “tinto in capo” Mason’s pant means purchasing a timeless garment that lasts beyond seasons and fashions. A true product of high Italian tailoring, reflected in the fine materials, handcrafted appearance, innovation, and cutting-edge production processes.
